Qualitative research and communication planning

  • Griffith University / RBWH – facilitated and analysed the qualitative component of the AusHSI-funded research project ‘Implementing economic modelling to improve service planning’
  • Medicare Local (Metro North Brisbane) –developed a communication strategy for the Partners in Recovery Program through consultation with relevant audiences
  • Griffith University, School of Human Services and Social Work – editing of a survey and covering letter
  • Teaching and Learning Division, Queensland University of Technology – developed a communication plan for Reframe (QUT’s new approach to evaluating learning and teaching); the project involved a series of qualitative interviews with staff and students
  • School Based Vaccination Program, Queensland Health – developed an approach for communicating with parents and students about school-based vaccination; the project involved qualitative interviews with service providers, parents, and students, and involved developing promotional materials for schools and service providers to use as they implement the program


Facilitating workshops; Engaging with audiences

  • Diabetes Australia – facilitated a one-day planning session for Diabetes Australia and its state-based organisations as part of the shift to national consistency under the NDSS
  • Bond University Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice – facilitated a two-day symposium about community jury research
  • Griffith University (disability and rehabilitation researchers) facilitated a staff planning retreat at Kingscliff
  • Griffith Health Institute – facilitated a staff planning session for the Population and Social Health Research Program
  • Griffith Health Institute – facilitated a Citizens’ Jury in Brisbane to explore whether taxation could be an appropriate strategy for addressing childhood obesity

  • Queensland State Archives – a series of one-day workshops about workplace writing
  • Queensland Rail – workshops about workplace writing for staff in the Environment Team (2016, 12-hour program) and staff in WHS Strategy (2017, 16-hour program)
  • Kyogle Together/Kyogle Youth Action two one-day workshops for community-sector staff in the Northern Rivers Region: one workshop about workplace writing; one workshop about promotion skills 
  • Department of Environment and Heritage Protection a series of 2-day workshops about workplace writing, delivered to staff throughout Queensland (2013-2015)
  • Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing – a series of 2-day workshops about workplace writing, delivered to staff throughout Queensland (2014-2015)
  • Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing – a one-day, advanced program for staff interested in further developing their writing and editing skills
  • Greater Graduate Program (Queensland Government) a 1-day workshop about workplace writing (annually since 2014)
  • Queensland Business Writers’ Conference 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 (organised by Lexi Communications) – presented various sessions about workplace writing (including document structure, reader focus, simplifying sentences, and moving beyond the first draft)
  • Central Queensland University, Office of Indigenous Engagement – a 1-day workshop about workplace writing for professional staff
  • Queensland University of Technology, Science and Engineering Faculty a series of 6 x 2-hour workshops about workplace writing for professional staff
  • Department of Education, Training and Employment, Office for Early Childhood Education and Care a series of 1-day workshops about report writing for staff involved in the quality assessment of early childhood services throughout Queensland
